Brendan Doherty - The First Day Remembered

When I was a young woman just starting my work career, I was fortunate enough to work for Eleanor Benjamin, a funny, bright, dedicated, and innovative woman, who also happened to be the wife of Rhode Island State Police Major Lionel "Pete" Benjamin.

She took me with her to the graduation ceremony at the State Police Academy, and pointed out to me a handsome young man among the graduates. It was Trooper Brendan Doherty. Even back then,  Ellie knew he was exceptional.

He is.

I just wanted to note that special memory I have... He might not even remember meeting me, but I always remembered that day - the first of his illustrious career.

~*~*~*~

I heard today on a radio talk show on my favorite station - 630 WPRO - one of the callers hoping that Colonel Doherty's resignation would wake up the "governor" to the wrong path he is on.

HA! Fat chance! To Chafee, this resignation is merely "one down, one to go" with Education Commissioner and aggressive education reformer Deborah Gist next on his hit list from insanity hell. I can picture the little weasel rubbing his paws together, a goofy weak-chinned grin on his punkish face.
